Yoga classes can be great for cultivating community and make a great addition to any regular movement routine, however, yoga classes and 1:1 Trauma Informed Yoga Sessions are not the same.
The comparison of typical yoga classes and 1:1 Trauma Informed Yoga Sessions is a bit like comparing community support groups to 1:1 talk therapy sessions.
Some benefits of 1:1 Trauma Informed Yoga that are often unavailable in group/class yoga settings include:
Customized yoga practice, curated specifically to the needs of the individual
A trauma-informed facilitator with specialization and sensitivity to the needs of the individual
The privacy to receive the benefits of yoga in a setting that feels safe and secure
The benefits of 1:1 Trauma Informed Yoga are best received by committing to a therapeutic process. A typical yoga class may deliver the instant (yet temporary) gratification of a full body stretch, and nervous system regulation after one session, however, in order to facilitate healing of past-traumas and give clients the tools that they need to go out and find holistic healing on their own, we highly recommend a minimum of 4-8 1:1 Trauma Informed Yoga Sessions.
